How we work with charities

We work collaboratively with our charity partners to ensure our mentoring programmes meet the unique challenges of every young person. Our bespoke offer allows our partners to work more efficiently at scale, reach young people regardless of geographical location, and gives flexible options to those who need them.

What we offer to charities:

Suitable for:  charities looking to have a positive, lasting impact on those they work with by developing new online programmes or adding mentoring to their existing projects

Purpose:  to ensure the young people they work with can make confident and informed decisions about their future, regardless of the barriers they face

Outcomes:  young people build long-term mentoring relationships with someone further along their journey to help them with specific challenges and give them ideas for the future

If you’re looking for something more specific, we’re happy to work with you to develop a bespoke mentoring experience that caters to your outcomes. Past mentoring programmes with schools have included:

  • Exploring higher education
  • Exploring industry pathways
  • The career pathway group challenge

Case study - John Schofield Trust

In 2021, Brightside worked in partnership with the John Schofield Trust, a charity whose mission is to help aspiring and early career journalists access and navigate the profession.

The journalism sector insight programme supported year 12 and 13 students across England and Wales with tailored 1:1 mentoring providing advice and information about all aspects of journalism, including highlighting the breadth of career opportunities and pathways within the industry and exploring the pros and cons of different routes into the sector such as university or apprenticeships.

[My mentor] has been able to answer any questions I have about the journalism sector no matter how big or small (or ones I felt were stupid). They have helped me to understand the route I would need to take to get a job in that industry.
